Choose the interface after drawing the signal path. A USB-DMX output, a physical DMX input and a network connection solve different problems. Smart-light control alone does not necessarily need a physical DMX adapter.
Which HUB fits?
- Network Edition: for supported network workflows. A USB-DMX interface is not included.
- Basic Output Kit: adds the listed USB-DMX output interface.
- Pro Output Kit: includes an ENTTEC DMX USB Pro.
- Pro Dual I/O Kit: provides the listed interface arrangement for simultaneous physical input and output.
Review each product's current price and included items before ordering. Connector appearance alone does not tell you whether a device supports input, output or both.
Why buffered output matters
The DMX USB Pro's internal buffer maintains output timing independently of the host's frame generation. This can help isolate output timing from host load, but it does not guarantee flicker-free lights or fix a wrong patch. See ENTTEC's explanation.
A single DMX USB Pro should not be assumed to send and receive simultaneously. Check ENTTEC's input/output restrictions and the software's supported configuration.
Validate before an event
Test the exact OS, driver, interface and fixture mode. For an external console, prove input separately from output. For smart lights, prove the integration separately from the physical interface. Keep a tested fallback: a Dual I/O kit is not automatically a redundant failover system.
Check your version and your lights
DMXSmartLink runs on supported macOS, Windows 11, Ubuntu and Raspberry Pi 5 systems, or on a preconfigured HUB. It accepts Art-Net and sACN input and provides Art-Net output; physical DMX requires a supported interface. Smart-light functions depend on the model and integration, including Homebridge or Home Assistant. The bundled Home Assistant companion on Pi/Ubuntu is experimental. Cloud integrations require internet; local paths have their own compatibility requirements.
